Chakuli pitha, a flat fermented cake made from Odia rice, has been popular in Odisha for centuries. It is prepared and served at festivals. To make the meal, combine rice flour, black gram, refined edible oil (preferably ghee or mustard oil), and salt.
Preparation
To make the batter, mix together rice flour, black gram, warm water, and salt. For several hours, the batter is covered and let to ferment. After that, the batter is poured into a skillet to form round flat cakes.
PREPARATION
Chakuli pitha can be enjoyed alone or with ghuguni, sambhar, sugar, jaggery, tea, milk, vegetables, and meat as a side dish.

Chakuli pitha comes in a number of flavors. Saru Chakuli is a thinner, but identical, form of Dosa.
Burha Chakuli is a thicker variation of the dish prepared from jaggery, paneer, and grated coconut.
